JOURNAL OF GENDER, DEVELOPMENT AND SUSTAINABILITY (JGDS)

The Journal of the Gender, Development and Sustainability (JGDS) is inviting well researched, scholarly papers from academia and research communities for consideration and possible publication in her maiden edition.

Gender study is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the complex interactions of gender, race, class and sexuality in social relations, institutions and systems. It helps develop a sense of social responsibility; strong intellectual and practical skills and the demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills in real world settings. Sustainable development aims at meeting present needs without compromising the chances of future generations to meet their needs, that is, the survival of our societies and our shared planet depends on a more sustainable world.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DIRECTORATE

Objective 1

To provide and administrative and intellectual home for the Directorate’s certificate and Diploma certificate in courses which are either Gender Studies or Sustainable Development Studies

Objective 2

To protect human rights and participate in humanitarian activities and maintenance of peace and security

Objective 3

To initiate and conduct quality research on gender and sustainable development issues and be responsible for organizing regular seminars, workshops and conferences which will be opened to Adeyemi Federal University of Education students and staff

Objective 4

To contribute to the elimination of violence and discrimination against women, widows and girls in all fields and facets of life

Objective 5

To make Adeyemi Federal University of Education the hub of Gender and Sustainable Development Studies in Ondo state and Nigeria as a whole

Objective 6

To pursue a programme of outreach activities, seminars, workshops and networking event within and outside the College.

SCHEDULE OF DUTIES

To organize regular seminars and workshops for Adeyemi Federal University of Education students and staff

To organize compulsory general Studies on Gender Education seminars for Degree one to four students

To organize compulsory general Studies on Gender Education seminars for NCE one to three students

Granting radio and television interviews on contemporary gender matters when requested in media houses

presentation of papers on gender issues outside the University for groups, churches and organization according to requests

To monitor the gender balance of both students and staff in grey areas in University’s admission, academic performance and office allocation

Sensitization of students, staff and members of the immediate community on focal gender matters like rape, sexual harassment, health issues, etc

Documentation of gender related information in the University for research purposes

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

To develop learning contents that leads to the award of Diploma in Gender, Human Rights and Peace studies

To develop learning contents on Gender, Human Rights and Peace studies as general courses to be offered by all students in the University

To organize seminars, conferences and workshops on Gender, Human Rights and Peace related issues

To collaborate with relevant stakeholders such as Government and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) locally and internationally oh Gender, Human Rights and Peace matters
