The Journal of the Gender, Development and Sustainability (JGDS) is inviting well researched, scholarly papers from academia and research communities for consideration and possible publication in her maiden edition.
Gender study is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on the complex interactions of gender, race, class and sexuality in social relations, institutions and systems. It helps develop a sense of social responsibility; strong intellectual and practical skills and the demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and skills in real world settings. Sustainable development aims at meeting present needs without compromising the chances of future generations to meet their needs, that is, the survival of our societies and our shared planet depends on a more sustainable world.
Against the aforementioned, the Directorate of Gender and Sustainable Development Studies is committed to publishing peer-reviewed articles and original scholarly papers that make significant contributions to gender matters and areas of sustainable development.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DIRECTORATE
The Establishment of the Directorate of Gender studies in Adeyemi College of Education, now Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo is in tandem with the contemporary global developmental movement sweeping through major Universities and leadership of world Nations aimed at bringing women and girls into the limelight and involving them in Nation’s building and protecting their interest as it was obvious that they form a vast majority of the population of most countries of the world and are marginalized in many aspects of life.
The establishment of the Directorate started with Prof A.I. Idowu during the 2015/2016 Academic session while Prof Olukoya Ogen actually set up the Directorate during the 2016/2017 Academic Session with Prof Martina Chinelo Onuegbu appointed as the Pioneer Director and Dr Mobolaji Ajibade appointed as the Deputy Director. Dr Ajibade was succeeded by Dr Bridget Adeyanju and later by Dr mercy Fasehun. Dr Onuegbu served as the pioneer director for six(6) years before handing over to Dr Mercy Ayo Fasehun as the new Director in August, 2022. By August 2023, Dr Omolara Awe was appointed as the Director of Gender studies.
ACHIEVEMENTS SINCE INCEPTION
⦁ The Directorate was instrumental in the formation of Adeyemi College of Education Female Staff Association (ACESFA), now known as AFUED Female Staff Association (AFUEFSA) on May 15, 2018.
⦁ From 2019 till date seminars were held for students relating to Gender based themes to create awareness and sensitization for students on various topics that affect their livelihood both in and off campus.
⦁ The Directorate was further granted permission by the College management to include Gender based topics in the General Studies Department Curriculum. Thus, the Directorate hosts six (6) courses, three (3) per semester as seminars under General Studies in Education. These courses have become an integral part of General studies courses from semester to semester.
⦁ “Gender eye monitoring group” is an arm of the Directorate created by the pioneer director, Prof Onuegbu, Dec, 2020. The group is made up of staff of the directorate and the student body and is charged with issues related to gender, rape, exploitation of students and sexual harassment.
⦁ The Directorate had her maiden International conference in April, 2021 and is currently planning the second International conference.
⦁ The Directorate of Gender and Sustainable Development Studies (DG&SDS), in conjuction with Bon Patrimone Foundation and Children’s Shelter Centre Fagun, Ondo (BPF) paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Igbatoro Road, Akure on Tuesday, 30th January, 2024 and the visit was eventful and successful fostering partnership and a better working relationship between the Directorate and the Ministry.
⦁ A specialized seminar was organized for all male students of the University on August 1, 2024. The theme was “Roundtable talk for upcoming men: navigating successfully through various life issues”. Four Seasoned speakers, including a Psychiatric Doctor, IT and Engineering expert and a successful business man were on ground to teach and mentor the male students of the university
⦁ The Directorate actively participates in the annual student’s orientation programs for freshers organized by the Directorate of Student Affairs
⦁ The Directorate is also actively involved with all arms of the Student Union Government in the University, speaking at their functions and collaborating with the SUG concerning student’s welfare.
⦁ The Directorate is also in partnership with the center for counseling and human development.
⦁ The Directorate has a functional website where activities of the Directorate are disseminated to the world.
⦁ The entire Directorate’s networking activities and information dissemination is handled by the University’s information and Public Relation’s Unit.

PHILOSOPHY OF THE PROGRAMME
The Directorate philosophy is to promote the knowledge of gender, Human Rights and Peace studies focusing on advocacy and academic programmes for the students and other members of the Nigerian society and beyond.
